HGV Driving Skills Bootcamps

Our free Skills Bootcamps in HGV Driving will help you become a qualified heavy goods vehicle (HGV) driver and get the driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

If you've got a full car licence or medium-sized vehicle licence (category C1), these Skills Bootcamps will help you qualify to drive either:

  • a rigid HGV (category C) - these are used for lots of commercial deliveries throughout the UK, some have loading access at the rear and sides as well as electronic tail lifts which makes them easier to load and unload
  • an articulated lorry (category C and E) - these have 2 parts (the cab and the trailer the cab is pulling) and are mainly used in long-distance haulage or for the movement of large volumes of items as well as bulky or heavy goods

If you are already a qualified category C driver we can help you upgrade your license to become category C and E qualified or to become qualified to transport dangerous goods (ADR).

What you will learn

These Skills Bootcamps are delivered using modern HGV vehicles and equipment to provide the training needed to become a qualified HGV operator.

Depending on which route you take, you could become qualified to drive a 7.5 tonnes to 18 tonnes rigid lorry, 44 tones articulated lorry, or become qualified in the transportation of dangerous goods.

You will also receive guidance and support to access a guaranteed interview with one of our partnered employers at the end of the course.

Content covered within the Skills Bootcamps include:

  • Undertaking an HGV medical
  • Introduction to HGVs
  • ADR core instruction covering gases, flammable liquids, explosives and toxic substances
  • HGV theory preparation and test covering hazard perception
  • Practical driver training - reversing
  • Practical driver training - driving the vehicle
  • Certificate of Professional Competence following 35 hours of driver training

Duration

The Skills Bootcamp will be tailored to meet your individual needs.

The overall length of the course will vary depending on how quickly candidates clear their medical, pass the theory test, pass the reversing test, pass the forward driving test and any further training needed on the transportation of dangerous goods.
